Women's Suffrage

We Deserve Rights Too!

Women have been attempting to gain rights all the way back to the mid 1800's or even further. During an anti-slavery convention in 1840, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Stanton and other wives were required to sit behind a petition while their husbands were able to actively participate. After being mistreated, these women decided to hold their own convention. This convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York where over 300 women attended. At this meeting Elizabeth Stanton composed a Declaration of Sentiments, which declared the rights of women modeled on the Declaration of Independence.
